Radio Sweden. Monday, 1 October 2001.
A controversial law has gone into effect here limiting the circumcision of boys by demanding medical personnel be present, and greater use of anesthetics.
A number of Swedish doctors say they will not carry out such operations under any circumstances, and one prominent physician interviewed on Swedish Public Radio compared male circumcision with female genital mutilation.
Members of the Jewish and other religious communities here have condemned the law as interfering with their historic traditions.
