In the New England Journal of Medicine, 11 June, 1987, Robert W. Enzenauer, M.D., stated:

Circumcision removes the protection normally provided by the foreskin. The absence of circumcision may actually protect against the transmission of AIDS by protecting the urethral mucosa.
